Why Exercise Can't Fix America

By Charlie Michaels

Exercise is typically hailed as the answer to losing weight and health and fitness. It is true that exercise can surely produce an incredibly positive effect on your overall health and fitness and fitness. This cannot be denied. However, exercising isn't going to solve the true health crisis in America.

The challenge that America faces is one particular of a good amount of meals. Meals are so uncomplicated to buy that most people don't give it an additional thought. The fact is, most people most likely have as numerous as 5 to 6 grocery stores within driving distance of their homes or work.

To compound the dilemma, we've got quick foods restaurants all over the place making the easiest food choices the unhealthiest. This overabundance of foods creates a quite big problem. If you have close to this much food items, folks are going to consume too significantly of it.

Human beings produce an incredible capacity to use only the time they're given. So, if you may have extra space, you fill it. If you may have more money, you spend it. If you have further foods, you cook and consume it. It is really just human nature.

Because human instinct is what it's, and men and women now have access to such low cost and effortless meals, the quantity of food items we consume is now beyond anything sensible. Our food appetite is beyond our control. We have to have less meals and we demand it quick.

In the event you got everybody to training an hour a day, every individual would burn somewhere between five hundred and 1 thousand calories. That would assist a great deal of men and women. Nevertheless, what if we're all taking in an additional one particular thousand calories each day that people don't have to have? Then we're barely breaking even or still falling behind.

That's the crux of the concern. It is really not just a challenge of us having to physical exercise. It's really a problem of meals intake and until that gets ironed out, no amount of workout will fix it.

A Week End Looking At Art In Cornwall

By Vera Smith

When I visited Cornwall for a sight seeing tour,on a short break holiday .I spent most of my time in St Ives.I enjoy the different noises ,sights and smells of a different country and even city. For example simply flying into Delhi, before the plane touches down, one is aware that very different surroundings await. This is because the aroma of spices fills the air,at the very least one knows one is in for an oriental experience.

The trains that links Cornwall not only to itself, but to the whole of Europe, seem very modern, well organized and they run on time. The best train network I have seen is the bullet train system in Japan. Not only is that very fast but the most punctual train service in the world. The Cornish train service took me to within 100 meters of my hotel.

Cornwall, of course is renown for art, style and fashion. I was, very interested in modern Cornish art , the current wave of artists seem to be pushing the limits of known and expected art, which really is what an artist should be prepared to do. I also had a great love of how the Cornish lived centuries ago, and one of my places to visit would be a museum, to explore their former life styles.

The museums were full of court costumes , gold thrones and elaborate carvings on the pine furniture once used by the Cornish aristocrats. The grand tables that were like royal farmhouse tables but they were of course fit for a king, to dine at. the colors were of course over the to by today's standard, but it is easy to see ,how a present day Cornish farmhouse table has certain elaborate requirements for the present day British people.

The bedrooms of the kings were laid out as they were then, sumptuous bed covering, long thick curtains, and very tall pine wardrobes again painted with reds and golds. Even today the Cornish keep their custom of painting furniture,a simple pine wardrobe in a Paris shop would always be painted. today though it would be in much softer colors.

Denny Hamlin Wins Pennsylvania 500 NASCAR Race

By Ross Everett

Denny Hamlin ended a sophomore slump of sorts when he won the rain delayed Pennsylvania 500 at Pocono Raceway. The win was Hamlin's first of the season and broke a 50 race winless streak. His last victory had come in 2008 at Martinsville Raceway.

After the race, an emotional Hamlin dedicated the victory to his grandmother who passed away late last week at the age of 91. His grandmother reportedly watched every race holding her #11 teddy bear"with her eyes just a few inches from the screen as her vision worsened with age:

She understands the competition of the sport and she understands how much she means to me. Like today, she's pretty proud. We definitely had some angels with us today."

The unique triangle configuration track at Pocono bedevils many drivers, but Hamlin has always performed well here. He swept both races here as a rookie in 2006 and after the race his boss J.D. Gibbs made note of that fact:

I told him earlier, we're going to lobby for a few extra races at Pocono"

Hamlin is now fifth in the NASCAR championship points standings after the victory. Tony Stewart increased his lead over Jimmie Johnson to 197 points with a 10th place finish.

Juan Pablo Montoya finished second, moving him up to 8th place in the overall points standings. Clint Bowyer finished third and expressed pleasure with the solid performance in his postrace comments:

"Things haven't been going our way all year long so it feels good to have something swing our way.

Former Indy Car driver Sam Hornish, Jr. took fourth"his best finish since coming to NASCAR. Kasey Kahne rounded out the top five.

NASCAR heads to Watkins Glen, NY to race on the road course there for the next race. Current points leader Tony Stewart is considered not only the best road course driver among current NASCAR competitors, but arguably the best of all time. The following week NASCAR travels to the Michigan International Speedway for the CarFax 400.

Argos' Home Woes Continue In CFL Loss To Stampeders

By Ross Everett

Judy Garland famously said in her role as Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz that theres no place like home. The Toronto Argonauts would likely take issue with that sentiment. On Friday night, the Argos lost a close one to the Calgary Stampeders at the Rogers Centre by a final score of 23-20. The loss extended the Argos franchise record home losing streak to ten consecutive games.

Henry Burris was happy with the victory despite the Argos recent struggles on their own field. Heading into the game, Calgary had lost 8 of 10 at Toronto :

"Rogers Centre has never been a fun place for us to play. We've had some tough games here against some hard-hitting Argos teams. This team has been through a lot and with the belief we have in one another, we were able to fight back and respond when it really counted."

Argos coach Bart Andrus kept the offense on the field for a last ditch effort to score a touchdown rather than go for the tie with a long field goal.

Placekicker Justin Medlock has only missed one field goal attempt all year, and Andrus is already hearing some criticism of this decision:

"I'll take the heat on the call to not kick the field goal. The distance bothered me. That was my worry. The 57-yarder against Winnipeg came with the roof open. I just wasn't comfortable with it."

Medlock all but second guessed his coach, saying he wanted to take a shot at the tie:

"I definitely thought I could've made it but never got the chance. Maybe I should've run on to the field. I hit the crossbar in practice from 60 yards out."

Calgary has won both games against Toronto this season, beating the Argos 44-9 at McMahon Stadium earlier this season. Stamps coach/GM John Hufnagel was particularly pleased with his team's effort on the road:

"If it was going to be a close game I wanted our defence on the field at the end to protect the lead and that's what happened. I think it's really a big step for this football team. I'm very pleased with the defence, I'm very pleased with the offence in the second half when they had to answer points . . . we got the momentum back each and every time."

Next up for the Stampeders is a home and home series with their provincial rivals, the Edmonton Eskimos. Calgary will host Edmonton on Labour Day, and the teams will rematch in Edmonton four days later. Toronto and Hamilton will go at it in their traditional Labour Day tilt, with the first game of the set at Hamilton and the rematch back at the Rogers Centre in Toronto.

Lyon Beats Real Madrid In Champions League Play

By Ross Everett

Jean Makoun scored early in the second half to give Lyon a hard fought 1-0 victory in the first leg of their round of 16 Champions League matchup against Real Madrid. The Spanish champions lost for the third straight time on Lyon's Stade Gerland home field and will now have an uphill battle when the teams meet at Bernabeu to advance to the next round. With the Champions League final slated to be held in their stadium, an exit this early in the competition would be nothing short of an embarrassment for Real Madrid. They'll need a multigoal victory to assure themselves of advancing to the next round.

Lyon controlled the play in the first half and held a decisive possession advantage. Unfortunately, they didn't get many accurate scoring chances with a number of them going wide or high of the net. Despite Lyon's time of possession advantage in the first half, Madrid actually got the best scoring chances in the first half. Following Makoun's goal just 2 minutes from the start of the second half, Madrid controlled play but could not score the equalizer. For the game, Madrid held a 66% to 34% time of possession advantage.

Real Madrid has won the Champions League title 10 times, but now must rally from this 1-0 deficit when play resumes on their home field in May. Despite their tradition of success, Madrid hasn't made it past the round of 16 for six straight years. Cristiano Ronaldo isn't particularly worried heading into the home half of the matchup:

"In football anything is possible. We've lost here but we have a game at home in which we can repeat what they did here. I'm calm. In this competition you have to suffer. I'm sure that we will give a good answer in the return game and that we will win. The Bernabeu will help us. We will have to give to give it everything from the first minute until the last. The tie is not lost."

Madrid General Director Jorge Valdano added:

"It's been a bad night in general, especially the result. We had ups and downs during the match, but at no moment were we ourselves. The result means we have to really concentrate at the Bernabeu. Lyon barely stepped out of their half in the final minutes, but they made things very difficult for us for a long time, especially in midfield."

Real Madrid will have to do without a couple of starters in the rematch. Marcelo and Xabi Alonso are suspending for the May contest due to bookings in previous contests. The team isn't particularly concerned due to their deep and talented roster.

Sooners' QB Bradford To Have Season Ending Surgery

By Ross Everett

Oklahoma's junior quarterback Sam Bradford will likely opt for season ending shoulder surgery. The reigning Heisman Trophy winner was to announce his plans at a Wednesday night press conference, but that has been canceled with no official word from Bradford expected before Saturday. Despite the delay, unnamed sources close to the situation indicate that there is "a very good chance" that Bradford will go under the knife in hopes of insuring a better opportunity with a NFL team next season.

Despite every indication that the decision to undergo surgery to repair an injured AC joint in his throwing shoulder is to eliminate the potential perception that he is 'damaged goods' in advance of the NFL draft, University officials stressed that there has been no official decision in this regard. He passed on the NFL draft last year in hopes to win a national championship at Oklahoma.

On Wednesday, Sooners' coach Bob Stoops addressed the media about Bradford and the canceled press conference:

"He just wasn't ready to fully answer everything that'll want to be asked and for sure what he wants to do just yet, until he has a few more people to visit with. That's it. I won't say another word about it."

"Sam's whole situation, he'll have something to say when he knows what his path will be, and that isn't right now. I'm not the one to answer it. He will. And I will once he feels he's ready to and knows for sure what he wants to do."

Bradford had hoped to contend for a national title this season, but that is no longer a realistic scenario with Oklahoma's 3-3 record. OU quarterbacks' coach Josh Heupeltalked about the conflicting issues that Bradford is currently dealing with as he tries to decide what the best course of action to take is:

"I think it's extremely difficult for him, coming back for all the right reasons, wanting to have an opportunity to go compete on the football field, compete for championships and then having all those things taken away from you. There's a lot of hard work that goes into it and when you invest that much, it's going to be extremely disappointing. It's not an easy situation for him, certainly."

Despite their 3-3 record, Oklahoma has played well this year. The losses came to top level opponents BYU, Miami and Texas by a total of five points. Still, barring a cataclysmic collapse by higher ranked teams of historic proportions there's no real hope for a return to national championship contention.

Had Bradford opted to go to the NFL last season, he could have been one of the highest players selected in the draft. He had a monumental season last year, throwing for 4,720 yards and 50 touchdowns. With his struggles this season and his injury, his future at the next level has grown somewhat more problematic. He could elect for surgery and opt for the draft this season, realizing that he'd be viewed as something of a 'risky choice'. Otherwise he could return for his senior season in hopes of improving his stock though that is always a dicey proposition due to the risk of additional injury.

Profiling Japan's Mixed Martial Arts Legend Kazushi Sakuraba

By Ross Everett

The toughest decision a boxer of MMA fighter will face in his career is deciding to hang up the gloves. Boxing history is rife with top notch fighters that hung around too long, and in a sure sign that its matured as a sport MMA is now experiencing the same phenomenon. After his punishing knockout loss to Melvin Manhoef at DREAM 4 it has become apparent that the time has come for Japanese fighting legend Kazushi Sakuraba to retire.

Mixed martial arts is booming in America, but there's not one specific fighter responsible for its upswing in popularity. That's not the case in Japan, as Sakuraba is almost universally acknowledged as having brought MMA to the mainstream of Japanese sports and popular culture. In particular, his on-going feud with Brazil's Gracie family made him a major superstar and national hero.

While Sakruaba's record in the sport is certainly worthy of this acclaim, the reality is that he hasn't defeated a credible opponent of any sort since his 2003 win over Kevin Randleman. At this point, he's doing nothing to enhance his legacy and is putting it at risk by continuing his career well past his competitive prime.

Boxing experts often evaluate fighters as being young or old for their age. A fighter whose career has been mostly comprised of knockouts or other easy victories against uninspiring opposition would be described as young for his age. Conversely, a competitor that has been through many grueling fights and wars against top notch rivals is often judged to be old for his age. Perhaps the best recent example of a boxer that was old for his age is Erik El Terrible Morales who retired late last year at the age of 30, having fought a series of epic battles with fellow Mexican Marco Antonio Barrera that left him physically and emotionally drained. As a result, boxing commentators often suggest that Morales was an old 30. Evaluated by a similar rubric, there's no doubt that Sakuraba is an old 38. The 90 minute confrontation with Royce Gracie alone likely took a significant physical and emotional toll, and after that Sakuraba continued to fight the best level of opposition in the world.

Furthermore he'd frequently find himself across the ring from much larger superstars, his popularity and fearlessness producing matchups that could never get sanctioned in the US but are commonplace in the wild wild west environment of Japanese fighting. The quality of opposition he faced is staggering"Royce Gracie and several other members of the legendary family, Wanderlei Silva, Mirko Cro Cop, Vitor Belfort, and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira stand out as the most impressive names on his record. Unfortunately and not surprisingly, he had difficulty when stepping up in class against heavier fighters and most of these matchups resulted in losses by brutal knockout or other type of stoppage.

Sakuraba has been less active in the past couple of years, but has shown little indication that he'll formally retire. Hopefully this decision won't undermine his legacy or more importantly negatively impact his long term mental and physical health.

Green Bay Beats Struggling Cleveland

By Ross Everett

The Green Bay Packers used 21 second quarter points and three Aaron Rodgers touchdown passes to easily dispatch the punchless Cleveland Browns 31-3 on Sunday. Rodgers threw two of his three touchdowns during the second quarter onslaught, adding a fourth quarter tally for good measure. Ryan Grant added--8 yards of rushing and a touchdown in the victory, in which the Packers dominated the statistical battle.

NFL football betting enthusiasts who laid the -8' with Green Bay as road favorites cashed their tickets with the lopsided victory. Green Bay improved to 4-2 against the NFL pointspread while the Browns dropped to 3-4 against the number. The 34 points scored went UNDER the posted total of 41'. Cleveland has gone UNDER in four of seven this season, while Green Bay evened their NFL totals record at 3-3.

The Packers upped their intensity early in the game, after quarterback Aaron Rodgers was punched in the face during a scrum. He recounts what happened next:

"One of the linemen came over and said, 'Who was it? We got your back. That means a lot to me and that means a lot to our team."

David Bowens was the perpetrator, though he insisted he was simply playing hard:

"I was just trying to grab anything I had. It wasn't malicious, I was just trying to get a stop. I apologized to him for it. He can call it what he wants to call it, but the refs didn't call it. I'd treat him different if he was passing the ball, that's different. But if he's running the ball, he's a running back. It's called football."

Browns' quarterback Derek Anderson lamented his team's struggles in postgame comments:

"We aren't good right now. That's it. Period. We haven't executed. We haven't done the right things to win ballgames. We haven't run the ball effectively, thrown it where we needed to. We haven't protected up front like we need to and caught it when we need to."

Head coach Eric Mangini sounded a similar tone:

"It's a very disappointing performance across the board. I don't think we played very well. I don't think we coached very well. I thought we were making progress in a lot of areas. I don't think we showed that today -- at all."

The Packers now face a big game next Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings which will feature Brett Favre's first return to Green Bay in a visiting uniform. The Packers are a -3 home favorite with the total set at 48. They'll face the struggling Tampa Bay Buccaneers the following week before hosting the Dallas Cowboys on November 15. Cleveland will travel to Chicago for a game against the Bears next week, with the Browns installed as a +13' road underdog and the total set at 40' Cleveland will have a bye the following week before returning to action at home against Baltimore on Monday, November 16.

Broncos Still Undefeated After Win Over Chargers

By Ross Everett

The Denver Broncos are for real. The NFL's most surprising undefeated team certainly answered any remaining doubters on Monday Night Football as they used a fourth quarter surge to put away the San Diego Chargers 34-23. Denver upped their record to 6-0 while San Diego dropped to 2-3. Denver's special teams also excelled, with Eddie Royal becoming only the 11th player in NFL history to return a punt and a kickoff for touchdowns in the same game.

NFL football sports betting fans that backed the Broncos as +3 road underdogs were rewarded with the outright victory and Denver continued their season opening undefeated run against the pointspread (now 6-0 ATS). The Chargers, meanwhile, have only covered one of their five games this season. The 57 points scored went OVER the posted total of 44'. San Diego has gone OVER in four of their five games this year while Denver went OVER for the first time this season, leaving their NFL totals record at 1-5 O/U.

Royal was virtually untouched on both of his kick returns, a first quarter 93 yard kickoff return and a second quarter 71 yard punt return. After the game, he gave credit to his blockers:

"Man, it was a great feeling. The guys did a great job of blocking. I've got to give them a lot of credit. They opened up the seams and it was a home run."

Despite the rarity of his feat, he said he wasn't surprised that he turned the trick:

"You've got to believe it can happen before you do it. I've got a lot of faith in the guys in front of me, so I wasn't surprised."

Broncos coach Josh McDaniels also praised Royal's blockers:

"I think our guys did a great job of blocking and giving Eddie a chance to get started."

While losing coach Norv Turner lamented his team's poor kick coverage:

"It doesn't matter who you are playing; you give up two big returns on a punt and a kickoff and it makes it tough"

Chargers' QB Phillip Rivers talked about the loss and the team's slow start to the 2009 NFL season:

"It's going to be tough. We have to get over this one quick or we'll find ourselves in trouble in Kansas City because it's a short week."

Denver will get a week off to enjoy their 6-0 start before returning to action on November 1 at Baltimore. The following week they'll host the defending Superbowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday Night Football before traveling to Washington, DC to face the Redskins. San Diego will play at Kansas City this weekend with the Chargers a -5 road favorite and the total set at 44. They'll return home to face their hated rivals, the Oakland Raiders, on November 1 before a road game against the New York Giants the following Sunday.

The Legacy Of Mexican Boxing Great Carlos Palomino

By Ross Everett

Vince Lombardi once said "Winning isn't everything, its the only thing". For most of the mainstream sports media, that couldn't be more true. Countless hours on sports talk radio are spent deriding NBA players like Charles Barkley and NFL players like Dan Marino for never winning a championship. Simply stated, no one remembers the runner up and the mainstream sports media helps reinforce this 'frontrunner' mentality.

While frequently maligned by the mainstream sports media, the sport of boxing more than any other sport lives by the how you play the game mantra. Serious boxing fans talk more about great fights than in terms of who wins or loses. The greatness of fights like the Ward-Gatti trilogy, the Barrera-Morales trilogy, Hagler-Hearns, Hagler-Leonard and, most recently, the Morales-Pacquaio classic from March 2005 are almost exclusively about how the game was played. Most of these fights were very closely contested, but even in the event of a decisive victory like Hagler-Hearns much credit is given to the opponent for making the fight great. Perhaps the best case in point is the first fight between Manny Pacquaio and Juan Manuel Marquez, which was at or near the top of most serious boxing journalists fight of the year lists for 2004. Despite the fights wall to wall action, the official decision was a draw.

Fighters can even be criticized for not having any losses on their record. While the highest level fighters like Floyd Mayweather, Jr. and Rocky Marciano are certainly exceptions, an undefeated record can often suggest a poor level of opponent as much as it does fistic superiority. A glossy won/loss record alone isn't enough to cement a legacy of greatness in the glorious history of boxing--that has to be earned inside the ring with heart, skill, toughness and character.

For a combination of accomplishment and championships, along with class and humility, few fighters can match welterweight great Carlos Palomino. A native of Sonora, Mexico, Palomino held the welterweight title for two years during the late'70's. While he was champion, he earned his college degree from Long Beach State University in California and in the process became the first reigning world champion to do so.

Palomino immigrated from Mexico as a child and began to train in boxing as a teenager. He showed a lot of promise as an amateur, but delayed his professional debut until'72 in order to serve in the US Army. While enlisted, he became All Army Welterweight Champion and won the national AAU championship. After turning pro, he worked his way up the ranks steadily until he finally won the title in June'76. Palomino scored a TKO victory over Englishman John Stracey in London, England and would defend his belt seven times before dropping the title via split decision to another first rate champion in Wilfred Benitez. He lost his next fight to yet another great in Roberto Duran, and decided to retire from the ring. He posted a credible 4-1 record during a late'90's comeback before deciding to retire for good.

Palomino got into acting after his boxing career came to a close, and has worked steadily both in television and film. He's also done a number of commercials, most famously the early Miller Light Beer 'tastes great/less filling' TV spots.

As a fighter, Palomino was much more technical and deliberate than the 'blood and guts' stereotype of a Mexican fighter. He had deceptive power, and a left hook that could end a fight, but would more often break his opponent down over the course of a fight with a punishing body attack and relentless pace. While he might not fit the mold established by men like Julio Cesar Chavez and Erik Morales, Palomino no doubt rates among them as one of the greatest fighters in the proud history of Mexican boxing legends.

Packers Shut Out Lowly Lions

By Ross Everett

The Green Bay Packers didn't do a good job protecting their quarterback last Sunday, but against the lowly Detroit Lions it didn't really matter. Packers' QB Aaron Rodgers was sacked five times, but Green Bay used a big first half offensive outburst to coast to a 26-0 NFL victory over the Detroit Lions. Rodgers threw two first half touchdown passes which was complimented by four Mason Crosby field goals as Green Bay improved to 3-2 on the season. The Lions slumped to 1-5 with the loss.

NFL football betting enthusiasts who backed the Packers as -14 home dogs easily cashed their tickets with Green Bay's third pointspread cover in five games. Detroit slipped to 2-4 against the spread. The 26 points scored went UNDER the posted total of 48'.

In the victory, Packers' receiver Donald Driver passed Sterling Sharpe for first place on the franchise reception list. Sharpe finished his career with 596 receptions, Driver now has 602. After the game, he talked about the accomplishment:

"It couldn't it come in a better place -- at home in front of the fans I've played in front of for so many years. It feels good. Now I just have to wait on Sterling to call me and congratulate me."

Despite the convincing victory, cornerback Tramon Williams wasn't happy with the relatively narrow margin:

"It feels like a 50 to zero game, but we didn't quite get there. I felt we should've put more points on the board."

For the Lions, their quarterback woes continued. Matthew Stafford is already out indefinitely with an injured knee, and against Green Bay backup Daunte Cullpepper injured his hamstring in the third quarter and was replaced by the Lions' third string quarterback Drew Stanton. Cullpepper is now listed as 'questionable' on the official NFL injury report. After the game, he talked about Detroit's lack of offense:

"It's very disappointing, very frustrating. It's embarrassing to me not to be able to move it on the field and get points on the board. We've got to figure out a way to do that, simple as that."

The Packers will play on the road this Sunday, heading to Cleveland to face the Browns. Green Bay will host the Minnesota Vikings the following Sunday followed by a trip to Tampa Bay on November 8. Detroit has a bye this weekend and will return to action as they host the St. Louis Rams on November 1. They'll play their next two on the road, with games in Seattle and Minnesota.

Florida State Comes From Behind To Upend North Carolina

By Ross Everett

Florida State won their first ACC college football game of the year on Thursday, though it certainly wasn't easy. The Seminoles were down 24-6 midway through the third quarter before mounting a furious comeback to defeat North Carolina 30-27. FSU quarterback Christian Ponder threw for a career high 395 with three touchdowns and no interceptions to pace his team.

College football betting enthusiasts who overlooked the Seminoles dismal record against the spread were rewarded by Florida State's outright win as +2' road underdogs. FSU covered for only the second time this season, upping their record against the college football pointspread to 2-5. The Tar Heels haven't been a very good investment either, and the loss left their ATS tally at 2-4. The 57 points scored went OVER the posted total of 48' for the Seminoles fifth OVER in six lined games.

The win also should help settle some of the talk about the future of head coach Bobby Bowden, at least for the moment. With the uncharacteristically slow start by Florida State, there has been a good deal of speculation that the venerable coach should step away from the program. He expressed some relief in his postgame comments:

"The talk that we've had down there, there's only one thing that solves it. Winning. Play close and fight your guts out? Who cares? You've got to win."

Winning QB Ponder suggests that the comeback win demonstrates the toughness of this Seminoles team:

"This proves how good we can be, and I'm just proud of the way we fought back. Down what, 24-6? And we could have given up and we didn't. That's just the character of the guys on this team."

The game was supposed to be a showcase for North Carolina, which entered the game with the nation's #3 ranked total defense. Tar Heels' coach Butch Davis observed that rankings are irrelevant once the game begins:

"It's a little bit of a wake-up call for the defense. Reputations and rankings and stats and all that stuff is somewhat insignificant. You've got to play."

Added Tar Heels' cornerback Kendric Burnley:

"It's too frustrating. I don't know what to say or how to explain anything right now. It tears you apart."

Researching How To Do Algae Fuel From Home For Energy Freedom

By Jason Gonzales

Biofuels came a very long way following the days of Rudolph Diesel. He was recognized for his work for the advancement of the diesel engine, his earlier diesel engines were created initially to run on vegetable oil as energy. In fact, his very first diesel engines were run on biomass oil. Even though these fuels ended up not instantly popular, throughout 2008 rapid increases in fuel prices as well as concerns about oil reserves, triggered more widespread usage of vegetable oil as bio-diesel fuel energy.

Biofuel manufacturing has grown in the recent years, and in that exact same time period a whole new controversy has risen up "Food vs. Fuel" is the matter concerning the danger of rerouting farmland or land crops for bio-fuels production at the expense of hurting the world food supplies. This is really a topic that has reached international significance as oil supplies begin to dwindle and biofuels turn into a mainstay.

Ethanol producers battle over food business claims that the price of every little thing from popcorn to your preferred soft drinks are increasing simply because of the rising expense and need for corn to produce renewable bio-fuels.

Since then, a brand new pioneering technological innovation using algae has arisen. Algae biomass has been dubbed the "Next Significant Bio-Fuel" and here are the top reasons why.

1. Algae grow quicker than every other farm crop

2. Algae can create a lot more oil than any other crop per acre

3. Algae can sequester harmful C02 and Nitrogen from the ambiant air

4. Algae releases Oxygen back into the atmosphere

So if you are a bio-fuels producer how can you take full advantage of this Algae biomass oil to fuel energy your property or business enterprise? Until recently, one of your largest complications was the lack of data on the subject for the laymen DIY person. Up to now to obtain all the info, you had to accumulate a dozen various books, from a dozen different and competing segments, some highly technical, and drown yourself into a world of very technical-jargon which involves Micro-biology, cell cultivation approaches, petro-chemical engineering.

Author David Sieg has changed all that. His literary works in the renewable fuels sector has given men and women the confidence to begin their own personal Algae Biofuel projects. David has the ability to explain fairly complicated topic matter in laymen's terms addressing subjects like: Growing algae, Algal strain selection, Constructing algae photo-bioreactors, and Algal oil extraction.

The transformation of algae into a biofuel from algae race way ponds or algae photo-bioreactors is considered to be a lot more environmentally friendly compared to the process to create fossil fuel diesel. Algae as a biofuel can run your vehicles and heat your property, so the next time you see a stagnant pond full of yukky algae, take a sample and make some algae fuel at your home!

Why Successful People Use Cosmic Ordering

By Anne-Marie Laureaut

Improving one's lifestyle is a concern that has affected most of us in these recent times. The quest to lead a fulfilling life and enjoying every moment is perhaps what you have always desired to do. There are many available options that promise you a gratifying life, and one popular concept is that of cosmic ordering.

Cosmic ordering refers to a spiritual process in which the universe will give to you what you ask from it. You ask or order for something and it will be given to you. Although it is a spiritual process you need not be a saint and always do good deeds to get what you ask for. It is a benefit for sure but not a necessity.

Cosmic ordering, very simply is the spiritual manifestation of your dreams and desires. You can ask for anything from the universe. A change in your life or perhaps a change in situation, which will help you to attain your desired objective.

As Deepak Chopra and Dr. Wayne Dyer insist, you must be aware of the field of intent in order to place your command before the universe. This is a field through which energy is transmitted, and is invisible in nature. It is at this level that our spirit connects to the cosmos and fulfillment of the desires occurs.

There is a high probability that cosmic ordering is something you have done without knowing that you are doing it. Think of all the times you have really wanted something and the wish has come true. You probably thought it was a coincidence. But actually it was cosmic ordering at work.

However this method depends on your ability to concentrate and the limits of your intention, within which your desires and belief condense. This leads to envisaging a new situation where you must believe that you deserve what you have been asking for, and keep in mind that you must be sincere in your effort of ordering it.

Saying "I want a new car," or "I want that promotion" and then believing that you shouldn't get those things because you didn't earn them, or you didn't put any effort into getting them will make it so that your order is not fulfilled. If a better life is really what you want, then you have to believe deep down in your soul that you deserve a better life.

Cosmic ordering is really not hard, it is one the easiest processes you can do to change your life. Is there a down side to this? Well, as with anything in life, there are always pluses and minuses to how it is used. Thinking about and believing negative things will also cause those negative things to manifest.

If in your heart of hearts you think that you might get fired soon, then it'll affect your performance and you will get fired! If you consider instead that you deserve a car or a house, and strongly believe in it, you will get a car soon enough.

Most people have had so many years living in unhappy circumstances and seeing themselves as being 'undeserving' that it is impossible for them to manifest what they want.

Your subconscious ming might try to deny the effects of positive thinking, but the message of positive thoughts must be sent across to it.

For real success at cosmic ordering your subconscious mind needs to be prepared beforehand to accept that it is okay for you to change your life and receive everything you want.

To do this, try a bit of meditation or self hypnosis. And believe in yourself!

Countless amounts of people around the world have completely changed their lives using cosmic ordering. Now it is time for you to start to live the life that you really want. Why not give cosmic ordering a chance and have the kind of life you truly deserve.

Jets' Rookie QB Sanchez Suffering From Minor Knee Ailment

By Ross Everett

New York Jets rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez has been a crucial factor in the teams 2-0 start, showing a poise and head for the game very rare for NFL newcomers. Still, there wasn't much worry at the revelation that hes suffering from tendinitis in his right knee. The Jets announced Sanchez's injury on Thursday, and hes listed as probable on the official NFL injury report. Based on comments from the quarterback and team officials, the prognosis sounds more optimistic than that.

Sanchez practiced on Thursday, and though he was seen stopping to stretch and rub his right knee on a few occasions didn't seem to suffer any impairment in his mobility. He participated in the entire practice, and there didnt appear to be any sort of effort to prepare Kellen Clemens to assume the starting role. Clemens, who served as Brett Favre's backup during his time with the Jets, didn't get any additional reps with the starting offense that would have indicated a concern about Sanchez's health.

Jets head coach Rex Ryan confirmed the injury while downplaying its significance:

"It's not that big a deal. He has something. I don't know how to describe it than just to say its a little tendinitis. But, he's fine. I mean, he fully participated and moved around great, I thought."

Jets offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer was even more emphatic in his statement:

"Mark's totally fine."

Ryan then added a sarcastic note that brought laughs from the assembled media: "Make sure he's on that list. I don't mean anything by that."

Ryan was referring to the Jets receiving a fine from the NFL for not properly disclosing injuries to then-QB Brett Favre late last season. Favre was suffering from a torn biceps tendon, though the team didnt list him on the official NFL injury report. The team was fined $75,000 while GM Mike Tannenbaum and former coach Eric Mangini were each fined $25,000 each. While he wasn't with the team at the time of the incident, Ryan has expressed his displeasure with the fine.

The Jets are less optimistic about the condition of cornerback Donald Strickland, who is suffering from a sprained right ankle. Ryan didnt offer much positive indication that hed be able to see action on Sunday:

"I don't think he's going to be able to play this week. I'm not declaring him out right now, but I don't think there's any way he's playing this week."

The Jets host the Tennessee Titans at the Meadowlands this Sunday afternoon. New York has been installed as a -1 home favorite, with the total set at 37. The Jets have won five of the last nine meetings between the teams straight up, though Tennessee holds a narrow 5-4 advantage against the spread. After that, the Jets will take to the road for their next two games. Theyll play the New Orleans Saints on October 4th before heading to south Florida to take on the Miami Dolphins the following Monday night.

Gamecocks Stun Ole Miss In SEC Opener

By Ross Everett

The South Carolina Gamecocks used a nasty defensive effort, combined with an efficient and mistake free performance from quarterback Steven Garcia to upset #4 Mississippi 16-10 at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia, SC. The Gamecocks ended a 22 game losing streak against top 5 ranked teams, while Ole Miss dropped their sixth straight SEC opener.

College football betting enthusiasts who took the Gamecocks as +4 home underdogs were financially rewarded with South Carolina's outright victory. After falling behind 3-0 after the first quarter, South Carolina led 6-3 at halftime and never trailed again. The 26 combined points went UNDER the posted total of 51.

The last time South Carolina had defeated a top five opponent was back in 1981, when they upended North Carolina. After the game, Gamecocks QB Garcia said that while it may not have been a game full of highlight reel plays, the victory was the important thing:

"It was a pretty ugly win, but a win and we'll take it every time."

South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier agreed:

"It was good to get a win when everybody watches. It was good for all Gamecocks. We thought we could beat them. Thought it was a toss-up game. But the way it turned out, the way our defense played, 16 points was enough."

In particular, the defense completely shut down highly touted Ole Miss QB Jevan Snead. He made no excuses after the game:

"We really hurt ourselves and we continued to do it all throughout the game, into the last series. It's tough.

Ole Miss entered the game with their highest national ranking since 1970, when Archie Manning prowled the Rebel backfield. Despite that, head coach Houston Nutt didnt sense any undue pressure on his team before the game:

"I never did sense that we were feeling a lot of pressure. Now it is what it is. You've lost your first conference game. You've got to work hard and win the next conference game."

Rebel offensive lineman Bradley Sowell, meanwhile, contradicted his coachs observation by expressing his relief:

"I'm glad it's over with so everyone can just stop talking about it.

The Gamecocks improved their 2009 college football record to 3-1 (1-0 SEC). Theyll host FCS opponent South Carolina State in Columbia next weekend before resuming their SEC schedule the following week against the University of Kentucky. Theyll take to the road on October 17th for what figures to be a tough game against the University of Alabama. Ole Miss is right back into SEC play next week, facing Vanderbilt on the road in Nashville, Tennessee. Theyll then return home for their next two games beginning with Alabama on October 10th. Theyll play the University of Alabama-Birmingham the following weekend.

The Truth Regarding The Corrupt Public Schools

By Justin Arnold

The school system may be made to be a great deal profitable, says Bob Bowdon, however entirely at the expense of things comparable to teachers and students. In his documentary "The Cartel," Bowdon, a New Jersey television news newsperson, turns the camera on the massive degeneracy and misdirection that has led his state to squander more than any other on its students just with substandard results. The numbers express the tale: $17,000 exhausted per student, and there's simply a 39% reading proficiency rate, it's tough to argue that there's a crisis afoot, but harder to concur on a solution.

On the one side is the monolithic Jersey teachers union and shady school officials, who guarantee that, as Bowdon points out in his picture, 90 cents of every tax dollar go for other expenses, including six figure incomes for school administrators and, in a shocking example, a school board secretary who makes $180,000. On the other side are the supporters of charter schools -- private schools which can function beyond the power of what Bowdon calls The Cartel. In those disordered public schools, Bowdon points out, it's very nearly impossible to fire an instructor -- so even a dreadful one has a job for life.

"The movie examines lots of diverse aspects of public teaching, tenure, financing, patronage drops, corruption --meaning thievery -- vouchers and charter schools," says Bowdon. "And as such it kind of serves as a swift-moving primer on all of the red-hot topics within the education-reform movement."

"The movie first appeared on the festival circuit in summer 2009, appearing in theaters nationwide a year later. Hopefully it will get a rise, and not be overshadowed, by the more recently released docudrama "Waiting for Superman," by "An Inconvenient Truth" director Davis Guggenheim. Bowdon says the documentaries can be seen as companion pieces: his focusing on public policy and Guggenheim's taking the human-interest angle. "My picture is the left-brained version, more analytical," Bowdon says, "'Waiting for Superman' is more the right-brained treatment."

The left-brained stance means arguments that observe the economics -- money misspent, opportunities wasted. But that isn't to say the film is without heart. Bowdon makes certain his eye is at all times on the people affected, principally the inner-city students trapped in a damaged system. A girl's weeping upon hearing that she wasn't selected to attend a charter school, that she's stuck in her public school, represent the failure of a system as well as Bowdon's charts and interviews.

It's hard to view a movie about corruption in Jersey and not think of the mob, but it's also unmistakable that this is a national difficulty seen through a tight lens. Any watcher will realize the failings of their own state's education system and the struggle for control. Bowdon comes out in favor of the charter school plan, of taxpayers being able to choose their own schools, to get out from under the state's control. Nevertheless he also knows it'll be an uphill battle to regain control from those who've worked so intense to make education very profitable for the very few.

After 30 Years, The Story Of Tron Is Finally Continued By Tron Legacy

By Selene R. Singleton

After nearly 30 years of waiting, movie makers are finally about to release Tron Legacy, the long awaited sequel to the great 1982 film Tron. Rumors were around during the late 1990's that a sequel was in the works due to the lasting popularity of the original. These rumors never turned into anything, frustrating many hopeful moviegoers. That was until the 2008 San Francisco Comic-Con when Disney officials at long last confirmed that the studio was seriously working on the second installment.

The central character of Tron Legacy is Sam Flynn whose father Kevin Flynn was the star character in Tron. While Sam investigates the disappearance of his father and tries to locate him, he is accidentally pulled into the virtual world where his father has been stuck for all these years and the two must fight to escape.

News about the project first got to the pubic when it was announced that Lee Sternthal and Brian Klugman were being hired by Disney specifically to write a sequel to Tron; at this point the project did not yet have a final title. The 2008 Comic-Con trailer was evidence that Disney had chosen to continue working on the Tron Legacy project. Then, in 2009 at Comic Con, Disney announced the project's official title, Tron Legacy, to the audience. Film makers said the name is related to the theme of a son looking for his father.

The first Tron film was beloved for many reasons, possibly most of all the Light Cycles featured in the movie; they are back and have been redesigned for Tron Legacy. A two seat Light Runner was also developed by Daniel Simon and his design staff. Disney even made life size Light Cycles as part of its marketing scheme and showed them off at the Fan Expo in Toronto in 2009.

Shooting for Tron Legacy kicked off in April 2009 in Vancouver, British Columbia. All of the stage shots for the movie were done at the Canadian Motion Picture Park. The producers were determined to make this a 3D film, so they used 3D cameras at every stage of the movie making process. A soundtrack for the film including 24 different tracks was put together by Daft Punk. Tron Legacy is scheduled to be shown on December 17, 2010 in the US and Canada.

Virtual Assistants have professional experience and are highly trained to deliver better results.

In short, a VA can do just about anything a regular employee can do. You just won't see his or her face every day and the way in which you send tasks to them will vary slightly. You (i.e. business owner, entrepreneur, etc.) pay only for the number of VA services used - only when needed - no down time. An employer who works with a VA has the distinct advantage of not having to deal with taxes, unemployment insurance, sick leave, vacation pay, or benefits. And they also enjoy the assistance of a professional without the headaches of hiring and managing employees.

Now instead of taking paper files into the next room or building, you can simply attach those files to an email and hit send. Your VAs will work on those files according to your instructions and return them via email. They will have good experience and better skills in managing and delivering tasks assigned to them.

A Virtual Assistant is a person running his own business, a trained administrative professional who can be your partner in your business success. He just does it remotely using technology instead of shared physical space. Today, virtual assistants communicate with customers by phone, fax, e-mail, overnight mail, instant messaging and web conferencing. By hiring a VA, the owner will be able to better manage his time and give their clients the personal touch they deserve.

They work with the same dedication like how you would work for your business. It's like your own shadow helping you to multiply your time which you always wanted to invest towards the growth of your business. This way you can concentrate more on your business needs and stop worrying about the paper work that needs to be done.

Medieval Desserts And How They Differ From Modern Ones

By Christine Szalay-Kudra

Comparing medieval desserts with modern desserts is like comparing the initial origins of the desserts we enjoy today with what we actually do eat today. Medieval people ate according to their status, so richer ones ate meat, fish, and sweetened, spiced desserts made with local produce.

The wealthy could afford grain such as milled flour and dairy products like butter and cheese. Medieval peasants had to make do with a more basic diet and they would have had to use rye and barley rather than wheat products and honey was used to sweeten foods and drinks. Elaborate desserts would not have been a possibility for the poor.

Medieval Dessert Ingredients

Berries and nuts were grown and used in desserts as well as soup recipes. Fruity desserts were well liked and examples include apple stew, raising pudding and fig stew. Pears were popular too and dishes like pear compote, pears in syrup and pear stew would have appeared on the medieval dinner table.

Sugar and honey added sweetness to medieval dessert recipe and spices like cinnamon and nutmeg enhanced the flavor. These desserts sound delicious but they would have been hard work to make, compared to the easy fluffy jello dessert recipes and instant jello pudding recipes of today.

A common thickening agent in the medieval world was almond milk and this liquid was created by soaking ground almonds in wine, water, or broth. Saffron and "powder douce," which is a combination of sugar, fennel, ground hyssop and aniseed, was also used to flavor medieval dessert recipe.

Changes After the Crusade Period

Soldiers from England, Germany, and France became fond of West Asian flavors during the Crusade period and they missed the juicy lemons and oranges when they returned to their countries. West Asian and Mediterranean ingredients like citrus fruits started to make an appearance in the late medieval kitchen.

Medieval Pastries and Tart Recipes

Oranges, lemons or apples were cooked with honey, sugar and cinnamon and maybe ginger or rosewater too, and cooked in a pie shell. The piecrust would have been made from wheat flour, water, eggs, and butter.

You can recreate medieval desserts like this one but with the modern ingredients available now, it is more common to add gelatin or even a flavored jello to bind the topping or filling and give it a better texture.

Today we have plenty more choice with dessert recipes than our medieval ancestors had. We have more cooking methods to choose from and, thanks to the internet and recipe search engines, it is simple to access thousands of dessert recipes including easy ones like jello recipes.

Cooking in the medieval world would have been slow, hard work because the cooking methods were more basic and there were no handy gadgets to help with the hard and often tedious tasks of cutting, chopping and mixing. Today we have access to modern desserts like jello recipes and jello cheesecake recipes and we can make them with relative ease and in very little time.

Secrets Regarding The Corrupt Public Schools

By Harry Herrera

The school system possibly could be made to be exceptionally profitable, says Bob Bowdon, although exclusively at the expense of things like teachers and students. In his education documentary "The Cartel," Bowdon, a TV news reporter in New Jersey, paints a reasonably ugly impression of the institutional putridness that has resulted in pretty much incredible wastes of taxpayer money. As $400,000 is spent per classroom, but reading proficiency is alone 39% (and math at 40%), the crisis is unmistakable, which doesn't indicate it's not controversial.

At hand are two major factions in Bowdon's movie -- the villains are pretty clearly the Jersey teachers union and school board who funnel 90 cents of every dollar away from teachers' salaries and towards incidentals, including six-figure salaries for school administrators. On the other side are the supporters of charter schools -- private schools that can work outside the influence of what Bowdon calls The Cartel. In those disordered public schools, Bowdon points out, it's virtually unimaginable to fire an instructor -- so even a shoddy one has a job for life.

"'The Cartel' examines lots of distinctive aspects of public education, tenure, backing, support drops, corruption --meaning theft -- vouchers and charter schools," says Bowdon. "The idiom education documentary can sound to some like dull squared, but in fact the film itself betrays an fervid passion for the predicament of particularly inner-city children."

"The Cartel" first appeared on the festival circuit in summer 2009, appearing in theaters countrywide a year later. The film has started a lot of talk, which ought no doubt continue with the more-recent release of "An Inconvenient Truth" director Davis Guggenheim's own education expose, "Waiting for Superman." Bowdon sees the two documentaries as taking dissimilar approaches to the similar predicament, "The Cartel" by examining public policy and "Superman" focusing on the human-interest aspects. "The two films make parallel conclusions," Bowdon says.

The left-brained tactic means arguments that observe the economics -- money misspent, opportunities wasted. Though he calls it left-brained, still "The Cartel" reaches some heartbreaking moments of emotion. The weeping face of a youthful girl who learns she was not selected for a place at a charter school makes its own strong controversy for the unsatisfactory failure of a state's education system.

It's difficult to watch a film about corruption in Jersey and not think of the mob, but it's also unambiguous that this is a national crisis seen through a tight lens. A viewer anyplace in the country will discern similar failings in their own school system, and may share Bowdon's frustration and eagerness for a resolution. The one he seems to be most behind is the charter schools, which take the reins from the unions and give them back to the taxpayer. Nevertheless he also knows it'll be an upward struggle to regain control from those who've worked so intense to make education very profitable for the very few.

A Potent Review Of The Movie Shame

By Shawn Holloway

Roger Corman directed some truly commendable films in his day, and Shame may be one of his crowning achievements. The director may be most well known for his proficiency at churning out schlocky B movies with cheap monster costumes, cute girls in their underwear and Z grade scripts, but he found time now and then to really put his heart and soul into creating more personal, meaningful films in between all the more marketable drive-in flicks. Put Shame on your queue next time you sign into your movie download service.

Shame is a truly courageous film. It deals with the issue of racism in the south, but it did so at the dawn of the civil rights era. It was easy to make a movie about racism in the eighties or nineties. Making a movie about racism in the early sixties, that's another story entirely. Corman actually made this film in the south, in the early sixties, and he was constantly threatened and harassed by the populace of the small rural town where the film was set.

William Shatner really owns the role of the villain in this film. It's his boyish charm that makes it work.

The concept of the charming racist villain may have been inspired by Adolf Hitler. Corman could have hired a villain actor to play the villain, but the inspired choice of casting someone who seems innocent on the outside exemplifies a primary theme of the film, that being that you need a handsome spokesman to sell ugly ideas.

Corman and his crew were run out of town by the local police when it became clear what sort of a film they were creating, and that it could mean trouble for segregationists. The final shots were literally filmed "on the run". As in, Corman was filming at one end of the street while a virtual lynch mob was closing in from the opposite end of the street, so Corman had to grab the shots and flee.

At this year's Oscars, the lifetime achievement award goes to Roger Corman, and there has been remarkably little coverage of his life and his work. It's too bad, because few filmmakers have contributed so much to the world of cinema for so little thanks.

Yes, Corman made a name for himself as a schlockmeister, but he also directed some real American classics and he launched the careers of Dennis Hopper, Jack Nicholson and Martin Scorsese, to name a few. The modern cinematic landscape wouldn't be the same without Corman's incredible contributions to the industry.

If you still haven't seen any of Corman's good movies, start with this one, then check out X: The Man With The X-Ray Eyes. Yes, he made a lot of cheap monster movies, he made the sort of sci-fi flicks where you could see the zippers on the alien's suit, but he also made some true classics both in the horror and sci-fi genres, and outside of his familiar territory, and Shame is an example of what gifts the man has when he can step away from the marketable genres and really put his heart and daring into a project.
